The Story of the Songkla Trip

We are finally back!

Chronology of arrivals:

6/12: myself

7/12: am-the students

pm-Puan and Dr Suhana

8/12: am - the Dean

pm- Dr Johan and Ms Sharon

9/12: Dr Gan

actual workshop date: 8 & 9th Dec.'09.

Workshop participants: 8 C.O.P members + 8 PSU students (which was later reduced to 5 main ones ie Film,Pup,Oat,Meaw,Joy)(note: our boys sort off 'fell in love' with the Thai gurls) + Jane (someone from CMU who came together with Bruce)

All in all I think the workshop was a success.Sure, language was a major problem but somehow we managed. We mastered the art of body language quite well here (not only during class but also when bargaining during shopping/buying food). Puan was very impressed with our members as was Ms Atchara with her students. I do hope the Thai students actually understood what we taught them and not nod just for the sake of nodding. And the what's with the banana dance? it seems that everywhere we go, the banana dance is THE thing to do and they love it!

Hisyam got lots of leg pulling, from myself, his friends and the Thai's especially from the Thai gurls...

Lots of joking around, laughter, leg pulling, never-will-forget incidents.

Lots of shopping as well.Stella got it most from the other gurls since she was the only one with a shopping list and what a long list it was.Btw, the trip to Greenway night market was really worth it and the tuk-tuk ride was..well, fun (you gurls know what I mean). Sigh! shopping and women always go hand in hand. What did we buy? generally tourist stuff: t-shirts,keychains,silk purses,Silk,shoes/slippers,costume jewellery.

Lots of sightseeing too- The Thai's brought us (lecturer's and students) to Songkla after the workshop/seminar on the 9th. Had a superb lunch and a newly opened restaurant. Went to Samila Beach, Monkey Hill (or does it come in another name?), the Mermaid statue. After which we had a wonderful seaside dinner (the photo above) .The boys and Ka Yee went with the Thai students to the Lantern Festival on the 10th. Whatever happened there is their secret.

Lots of food-Thai food at its best. Even the food at the various food court in PSU was good. Not to mention the ones sold by the street hawkers. I think I had the best ABC so far ie the one at Greenway.Dahler boleh pilih nak letak apa and it was really filling. The price tag? B15 (approx. RM1.50)

While we were busy conducting the workshop, the other lecturers were busy in the seminar hosted by PSU law school. No idea what happened but future exchange programs and similar visits are in the cards.

So thank you ms Arthcara, Ms Tawan, Film, Pup, Meaw, Oat, Joy, Bumbim, PSU for having us there..for showing us around..for a good experience...

Situation keeps on changing....

Good day everyone......

Looks like the dates for theVietnam trip has been changed from 2nd-4th December to 13th-17th December. Venue so far is Vinh Uni.Its halfway between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. From what I understand, Bruce wants you to travel to either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City than travel by train to Vinh. 2-4 students will be chosen and since Mya had to be opted out from the Songkla trip, Puan wants her to go to Vietnam.

And of course, the China trip is off hence Mya is out and Stella is back in for Songkla. Puan said the Chinese authorities are afraid of the 2nd H1N1 wave.

Sigh! So much to do, so little time

Congrats to Hilmi, Eha and Kar Yee as well as other members that went to Putrajaya on the 9th. Puan said you did a good job.

So, don't forget your report and photos.

Hari Jabatan Penjara Malaysia 2009

Firstly, congratulations to Puan upon receiving the Pingat Bakti Setia Jabatan Penjara Malaysia in conjunction with Hari Penjara Malaysia 2009. All 3 of us went together with Im, Fina and Faz. It was a grand occation with all the shing-ding. The was the inspection of the guard of honour, a anti terrorist demo by the UKP's,brass band, awards ceremony.Um was the only uni who got the award: 1 was to Puan, the other to CERIA (a centre located just outside PJ gate which focuses on AIDS research, or something to that effect).

We have the design for our new t-shirts. If eveything goes well, we should get them early Dec, just in time for our trips. As of 1100 today, it will be in royal blue with silver letterings. Special thanx to our frens in Kajang for the designs.

Updates on our activities for the next few months.

i)Confirmed participants for our trips:-

1) Songkla (7-10 Dec):- Im, Faz, Fina, Dell, Mya, Amy, Eha & Kar Yee. Dr Suhana & I will be attending as well

2) China (10-14th Dec or thereabouts): Jeanette & Stella. Puan will be going. It will be freezing so bring out the winter clothing. And don't forget lip balm

ii) Our Vietnam trip will be, insyaallah, from the 2nd -4th of Dec. I think Puan wants around 4-6 students to go. Participants to be comfirmed.

iii) We will be heading to Taman Sri Putri, Batu Gajah sometime in January. It's a girls institution. So far, Puan wants to send 1st years. How many seniors who will be going is negotiable.

That's all for now.

Cheers!

Latest updates....

Updates of forthcoming activities for Nov-Dec 2009.

9/11/09 - We are invited to organise a C.O.P session at Sekolah Alam Shah, Putrajaya. To give the schoolkids an intro on legal education etc...I think it's something like pesta kerjaya..and since our 2nd year members have FAMILY exam on that day, so the programme will be run by the 1st years and 3rd yrs of do not have papers around the 9th.

21/11/09 - ICRC is holding a talk in Bilik Persidangan and we are invited to do some stuff(biasalah kan)..at 1st Puan wanted all members to attend..it is now on voluntary basis.

And sometime in November, Puan might just call a few members to go to Kajang. (yet to be confirmed)

December will be quite a busy month for C.O.P:-

7th-10th - Songkhla trip. This trip is purely to run a workshop with the Prince of Songkhla Uni students. 8 members were chosen. The juniors are there to train them-they are the ones who were predicted to lead C.O.P in years to come. And the seniors....well, being seniors some are there just for the fun of it (and to supervise the juniors), others, just to expose them to CLE outside Malaysia. I will be accompanying the students together with AP Dr Suhana.

10th-(I think) 14th - Puan will be going to China to present a paper on our C.O.P/CLE programme. and she is thinking or bringing 2 students, pending approval from the Chinese Uni. From what we discussed over lunch yesterday, at least one member originally slated to go to Songkhla will be going to China instead.China wil be a good experience since from what I heard, their CLE is different from ours and quite advance. So cross your fingers.

Sometime after the 10th but hopefully before Christmas, there might be a trip to Vietnam..this time I think 4-6 students will go and so far, those who are going are NOT those who went to Manila, Chiangmai, Songkhla or China.

As for visits, most probably we will start during the 1st 2 weeks of 2nd sem and might start with STB.

So, goodluck in your exams. And Happy Holidays!

Visit-290809

Evening folks.....

First of all let me congratulate the group of students that went for the visit today. I would say it was a good visit. A special note to all the first years who went today (let me see if I got them all): Hilmi, Fuad, Kar Yee, Jiha, Sawi, Fizah and another girl whose name escapes my mind at the moment. For first timers, you did extremely well. Your lesson plan was prepared to perfection although there's always room for improvement. Puan and I were very impressed, very so that we have actually picked some of you for the upcoming trips. Not to forget the seniors: Im, Faz, Fina, Ipe, Siew Lee, Stella and Sarah. All in all, you guys did a good job. Bravo! (btw, your report is due latest Tuesday, 1/9/09)

Since you guys mentioned that you wanted new t-shirts, I took the initiative to ask the boys to design them. It would give them something to do. You will be surprised that some of the boys can actually draw very well.If everything goes well, you will get your new design earliest the week before Raya.

Speaking of Raya, Puan and I were thinking of bringing them some Raya cookies. Let's see if it actually materialise. Cookies for me is a must every raya so it's just choosing the kind of cookies I want to make.

That all for now.

Cheers!

Some updates....

I hope I'm not too late in wishing all Muslim members selamat berpuasa...and to all, Selamat Hari Merdeka! It's a long weekend, have loads of fun...

Met Wendy yesterday..discussed some future possibilities for C.O.P...among them you might get new T-shirts...so i hope you guys choose a good design and nice color to match the ole one..maybe open the designing to all members.

And, as I stated in my earlier post, there is a strong possiblity of 2 overseas trip for some members before the yr ends. Somehwere in the region (no, not Chiangmai). Most probably in December. And we are still discussing the possibility of 2 more trips (one of which will be in a different continent so cross ur fingers)

Now, all play and no work just isn't right..so Wendy is requesting a report from some of you about ur experiences in C.O.P..what have you gained etc etc....Puan Asnida will inform the 'lucky' ones...

And more visits are to come...and with the visits, more tasks to perform...more or less like what some of you did with the TLS last week....you did such a good job so now Puan wants to do the same more often...so be prepared...

Hmm...what else? Itu je kot for now.....

Cheers!

Welcome Back!

Selamat kembali ke sekolah semua....welcome back.

To those who went to Chiangmai, hope you guys had fun..to the rest, hope you enjoyed your holidays as well....and to our new members, welcome to the club

Some highlights for 1st sem.....

We are planning to go Rumah Nursalam, Kajang and STB Taiping, hopefully, in July..this time round, only the 2nd years will be going to STB (plus the HICOM naturally)...there might be a trip overseas as well, so just cross your fingers and hope that trip comes through..

Fyi, the 3 of us went to Perth from the 8th-12th July for the International Journal of CLE Conference. It was a good conference, met a lot of clinicians from the UK, Australia, Japan, China, Nigeria, Oman and USA. those from the UK were awed and interested in what C.O.P is doing and want to learn more...we forced those who attended our presentation to introduce themselevs in BM....we also did the activity where they had to describe a photo given to them and pass the description down the line and the last person had to draw what was described to him..it was fun since most of them involved were actually professors/senior academicians in their respective uni's...we had a blast..btw, Wendy sends her regards to all of you...wsihed we could have brought some of you but masa kita org plan nak pegi, all of you were holidaying somewhere, taks empat nak discuss betul-betul......

that's all for now...

cheers!
